A Pocketful of Broken Shells
My daughter Eden collected a pocketful of beach treasures yesterday. She has kept them in her pockets all day today and loves to take them out and look at them. She is so protective of them— her baby sister is absolutely NOT allowed to touch. When she showed them to me yesterday, I tried to show her they were broken and how to look for better ones; but she was uninterested in my advice. These broken shells were meant for her, and she determined to keep each one. Each one chipped, cracked, crushed. Each one her peculiar treasure.
You can probably see where this is going. But, really, isn’t this the Savior? Jesus came not for the whole, but for the sick; not for the perfect, but for the broken. These little shells in my daughter’s hands were such a precious reminder. Each of us is broken, yet each of us is so dear to His heart. Each of us is unworthy, inadequate, not enough… but Christ makes us worthy, shines in our inadequacy, makes us enough because of His fullness!
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”
-I Peter 2:9
“And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
-Luke 5:31, 32
I can’t express what joy that brings to my heart! I’m a bit broken, a bit useless, and yet He wants me!
He wants you too.
